Glory in rose of Lancaster stakes

We concentrate on the action at Haydock with the Shergar Cup meeting not my cup of tea!

The Rose of Lancaster stakes has a short priced favourite in Grocer Jack trained by William Haggas. This German horse was purchased for £700k at the end of last season for his current owner HRH Prince Faisal Bin Khaled. That is quite a price but he is looking a proper horse following his win at Newbury in a listed race last time out. That race sort of fell apart and cannot be taken at face value so today is a good test for Grocer Jack who I am keen to take on.

Passion and Glory is having his final race in the UK before quarantining for a trip down under for their spring carnival. This son of Cape Cross impressed by how he won at Sandown over 10 furlongs on his first run back since Meydan in March. Hollie Doyle sent him to the front over two furlongs from home to ensure a proper gallop and he stayed there overcoming some fitness concerns on her part. He took a good blow following that race so we can reasonably expect the horse to come forward again with race fitness on his side. He will enjoy the easier ground at Haydock along with the extra half furlong and is well drawn on the inside in stall 1. Grocer Jack was impressive winning a listed race at Newbury three weeks ago but he might have been flattered by his 9l success.

We will find out more today and I am happy to take on the favourite with a good each way shout.
