Godolphin’s Guineas To Lose

The first classic of the turf season takes place today at Newmarket.

Its a race I’m really looking forward to as the unbeaten Native Trail bids to hold off likely dangers Luxembourg and stablemate Coroebus. I think we are going to see the winner will come from the above three and most like a potential champion 3yo in the making.

Native Trail was the best of these last season but it is never a given that top 2yo’s will train on to become the top 3yo’s. Honestly, I do think Native Trail will be a top 3yo as he is not a small horse and should progress having won his trial race over a mile here at the Craven meeting. I have little doubt Native Trail will stay further as he hits a flat spot in his races before powering home at the business end of his races. Coroebus and Luxembourg look top racehorses and on drying ground I am backing Coroebus. Our selection should be unbeaten like the other two main contenders as he idled badly in the Royal Lodge stakes after quickening clear allowing Royal Patronage beat him a neck. William Buick rode a more patient race in the Autumn stakes and I loved the turn of foot Coroebus showed to win easily. All his three runs have come at Newmarket so we know he enjoys this course and the trip is ideal. Coroebus is drawn in stall 1 with James Doyle riding this time and no doubt he can quicken to good effect at the business end of an enthralling race.

The other two top class 2yo’s of last season who have the size and scope to progress into top class 3yo’s are Coroebus and Luxembourg. Watch the cream rise to the top in the first classic of the 2022 season.

Newmarket  3:40

0.5 point each way Coroebus 11/2 generally, 4 places.
