Old Newton Cup Enticing Pair

Spirit Mixer looked a winner last Saturday when hitting the front a furlong out but the best stayer in the UK, Trueshan showed his class to come through and win carrying a huge weight of 10-8!

The Eclipse is a fantastic race this afternoon with the French and Irish guineas winners clashing as both take on the elder generation such as Bay Bridge, Alenquer, etc. What a race and one to truly enjoy. We take aim at the valuable middle distance Old Newton Cup Handicap. A maximum field of 17 go to post with Gaassee a very short priced favourite.

I cannot split the Andrew Balding trained pair of Something Enticing and Secret Shadow. Both are 4yo’s that are coming to the boil nicely off the back of light campaigns so far this season. Something Enticing is dropping down in class following his second-place finish to Third Realm over 1m4f at Goodwood at listed level. That was an encouraging run with the handicapper leaving her alone on her current mark of 95. David Probert is back riding today and will have more time to deliver Something Enticing late off a generous pace hopefully. Last season he finished strongly from well off the pace beat Lucander in a good handicap at York over 1m2.5f. He backed up that run with a fast finishing second behind Vesala in a filly’s listed race at Doncaster over 10f on soft ground.

Secret Shadow in another filly who is having only her second run of the season. She travels really well in her races and look a winner when hitting the front a furlong out at Goodwood recently. In the end she was run down and it looked like she needed that race taking a blow. She will be match fit today and is a strong stayer having won over 1m6f on soft last season beating Summertime Romance at Nottingham. Any further softening of the ground is fine with Hayley Turner riding light carrying 8-2.
