Curragh 2:25

0.5 point each way Saltonstall 10/1 Skybet 5 places else10/1 generally, 4 places.

Saltonstall is an auld favourite of ours who has won premier handicaps at the Galway Festival in the past. He’s getting on in years now aged 9 but continues to run well and show enthusiasm for the game. The handicapper has relented of late dropping him down from a mark of 98 at this years Galway Festival to his current mark of 90. He was rated as high as 103 earlier in the season so he is a well handicapped horse. I think he will go well over a stiff mile at the Curragh on heavy ground. Adam Caffrey keeps the ride and is excellent value for his 5lb claim.

Cork 3:15

0.5 point each way Flash De Touzaine 9/1 Skybet 5 places else10/1 Paddy Power & Betfair SB, both 4 places.

Flash De Touzaine returns from his summer break and hopefully trainer Liz Doyle will have him fit and ready to run a big race. He ended last season with a cracking third place finish in the Scottish Grand National ridden by Richie Deegan. That was a big jump in trip for the horse and he passed the stamina test on good ground. The ground is soft at Cork but this horse likes it soft and won a handicap chase at Galway on his first run back last season beating Real Steel. Flash De Touzaine can be hot or cold but off a nice weight of 10-10 he looks value to play a role in the finish.
